From the 18 to 22nd of August, Appleland had a cooking class whereby the children gets a chance to bake Shepard's Pie. Parents have requested for the recipe. So here it is!
Ingredients:
8 Russet Potatoes (any potatoes of your choice)
1Kg Minced meat/mixed vegetables (or any other filling of your choice)
Thyme
Basil
Diced Onions
Crushed Garlic
All Spice
1 Bar of Butter
Frying Oil
Salt
Cheddar Cheese for decorations
Method:
1) Boil the potato. Then peel and mash with butter. (the amount of butter to use depends on the amount of potatoes you use. 8 Russet potatoes will use 3/4 bar of butter)
2) Fry the onion and garlic till fragrant. Add the all spice, thyme basil and salt.
3) Mix in the mixed vegetables and minced meat. (If you do not like mixed vegetables, you may change it to a vegetable or filling of you choice.) Cook until the vegetable and meat turn soft. Set aside.
4) Put a layer of the meat at the base of the baking pan/casserole. Then put the mashed potatoes on top of it to create the top layer. Repeat this step for every pie you make.
5) Spread a layer of grated cheese onto the potato before putting it into the oven for 10-15 min or until the pie turns golden brown. Serve it hot.
The recipe depends on the amount and size of the pie you wish to make.
